Cole's Story

Baby Cole Cox has the chance to live a long, normal life, but he needs our help.  This ten month old little boy is the first person in Nova Scotia to be diagnosed with ZAP 70, an immune deficiency syndrome. Cole's only hope for survival is a bone marrow transplant, either from a donor or from stem cells taken from an umbilical cord.

On Tuesday, March 13, 2007 prayers were answered and a match was found.   Cole and his parents, Mark, originally from Cheverie, & Jennifer Cox, from Lunenburg, left for Montreal on Thursday, March 22. The couple must stay in Montreal with Cole for at least 100 days at their own expense and possibly up to a year or more, after the transplant, to closely monitor Cole for signs of rejection.

This family is facing an endless amount of expenses including extensive home renovations to provide a germ-free environment for Cole, medical supplies and travel costs to name a few.

Making this situation even more tragic for his family, is the fact that Cole's sister, Rylee, died two years ago from the same disease, although it hadn't been diagnosed until Cole became ill.
